Tweens LOVE this Book!

Enjoy the everyday adventures of a sixth grader!

Lucy Ann Pickle is a story of dreams, disappointments and achievements in the life of an 11 year-old girl and her friends.

Judith Anne Mortimer, the author of Once in a Dream, A Collection of Poetry, takes a look at the world of a sixth grader, in her new book. Lucy Ann Pickle. Discover days of close friends, family values, trying to excel in the school spelling bee, girl talk with best friends, birthdays, soccer, and, of course, Lucy Ann's first crush on a boy in her class. Lucky Ann Pickle is a delightful story for middle readers as well as for adults who want to look back and remember their own special days of growing up in the sixth grade.

She attended Western Illinois University, majored in Journalism and later worked for the Chicago Daily News. Excerpt

"I am a really good speller. Dad says I'm good at lots of things, but I know I'm good at spelling. I won the last all-school spelling contest and it wasn't even hard for me. I have to admit, I was a little scared about standing on the stage with only five other kids. But when they called my name, "Lucy Ann Pickle," I just marched right up there like I wasn't afraid at all.

When you have a last name like mine, you get teased a lot. On boy calls me "Pickle Puss" all the time. Mom told me it's best to ignore people like that and I try to. Anyone, one the Spelling Bee started, I just forgot all about being on the stage, and about all the people staring at me, and spelled every single word they gave me, without a single mistake. When it was over, to celebrate, Dad took my and Mom and Tommy, my baby brother, out for ice cream sundaes at the Ice Cream Palace...
