 Homemade Costume Ideas:

The Knight. A piece of fabric with a hole in the middle and a tie around the waist becomes a tunic for a knight and some aluminum foil over cardboard makes a great shield.

Using Purchased patterns for costumes. One year I sewed a Care Bearô for my daughter. After that I think the costume was used at least a half dozen times by others in the family. We got plenty of use out of that costume.

Kid Robot.  This was the funniest costume in our family history. Dad made it out of a plastic waste paper basket and a plastic bucket with dryer hoses and more. The part that still makes us laugh, is that our son couldn't move very well once he had the costume on, so dad wheeled him around the neighborhood on a dolly to go Trick-or-Treating.

Strawberry. Our daughter wanted to be a strawberry one year for Halloween, so I sewed some red vinyl together and added a green fabric top. She loved it.

Turtle. Green pants and shirt were topped off by two circles of cardboard covered with fiberfill stuffing and green vinyl. (I think I just taped the vinyl in place.) We added some "hands" and used green hair spray and grease paint for the final touches.

Pirate. This is a very simple costume. a bandana, and eye patch and a scarf around the waist. The sword and cutlass are cardboard covers with aluminum foil.
